(HD video installation, work in progress)

A black figure stepping backwards with a training device on a balcony above Rue des Commerçants (not Commerçantes). This work refers to a painting of Paul Klee, Angelus Novus, the object of an interpretive text by German philosopher and literary critic Walter Benjamin, who purchased the painting in 1921. In his "Theses on the Philosophy of History," Benjamin suggests that the angel depicted in the painting might be seen as representing progress in history. This text has also inspired Laurie Anderson in her song 'The Dream Before'. In this song the songwriter describes Walter Benjamins vision of the storm that blows the angel backwords to the future. History in this song becomes his-story.

In the video the angel is black and reminds of a muslim woman in a burqa. The Angel figure is placed on a balcony. Rue des Commerçants has a certain reputation of prostitution, this flow of cars can also be seen in the video.
